My father was Lt. Wm. C. Watson. He kept a daily journal of the march through Italy from February 3, 1944 until he was injured in battle in April '45. photocopies of the journal are available to anyone who asks. My father was in the Pioneer Platoon, RCR, which allowed beards and aprons, and axes, amongst other things. I'm looking for information on when and why the Pioneers were permitted these discretions, what they represent and symbolize. I'd be particularly pleased to provide copies of the journal to any members of the Platoon, and would be especially honoured to provide copies to relatives of those who served with my father in the Italian campaign.

In addition to any other info you may have received from our members, I'd suggest also asking the professional curator of The RCR Museum, Mr. Claus Breede. His work email address is breede.c@forces.gc.ca If you find the info you're looking for, please feel free to drop back and share it, as including from myself, there's likely a a lot of other who would like to know. Cheers! Brian D. Watters
