Famagusta, I think.

Fred was a newf, it was only right he drove the ski boat.

I wish I'd gone somewhere other than Limisol for my leave...

No it was the mid eighties (I LOTPed '87) Ask him about a newfie (me) being in Quebec for the first time....
Great pics of all the troops, brings back alot of (I thought) long-forgotten memories... Recognize Ed Graham (?first name); Rob ?; Freddy White (great man); Glen ?Ward; Kevin ?McIntyre - snored like a banshee (WIFFE tech now in Gagetown);Jeff Boucher? "Butch:, Tom Lawrence; good ol Roger Funk; can't tell from the distance, but might be Mike Belanger (from the height) front of OP; ?McIntyre from the 'borne, drove a big ol' hog; others cannot remember names

Rob remembers quite clearly. He was just being coy...
Claude Ward, I think. Came from huntsville area...ya, this last couple days has been a real trip down memory lane.
I don't regret a second of it but always missed it after I left. The air force wasn't the same. There was no brotherhood.
My 15yr old and two of his buds have been talking about joining the militia next year. I was trying to talk them out of it and going for the Air Reserve instead. I'm glad I didn't. They'll create bonds and make friends in the field they could never make anywhere else.

Excellent! These are exactly the type of pictures I'm looking for but, ah, could you put some more up of rythmes with nissi beach....bwahahahahahaaaaaa... I was supposed to go over with Dukes, 2 platoon, in fact, with Mr Martin from Arnprior. Who was a pretty good fofficer for the short time I knew him. Transfered over from Mortars in time to go on adventure training Right after we sailed down the Madawaska river, however, there was a, ah, irregularity which resulted in a transfer to BBC Company and one of the best assignments I ever had as a Royal. Welfare NCO! Good lord, rental cars, leave centers and boooze....damn near killed me!

I often think the guys who had the slot for running the leave center in Limasol had the best damn job on the entire island. Hal... ugh, mental lapse... and Pepe Madaire had the jobs at the time, had a sweet set up, no uniforms, RCR t's and shorts, wind surfers and motorboats... I think Hal hired the lady in the picture, in fact. Ah Limasollll..... I remember you well. Naturally, as part of my duties, I was down there fairly often....

Hal Butt?? Maybe..pepe was the guy with the "Now we eat; soon we shall mate!" comment...thanks for jogging my memory.
I was just thinking how nice it was those that make the decisions to repatriate us a month early.......so we could make it to RV 85 as soon as we got home.

I remember my first time at N beach (didn't have em Newfoundland - too cold!) First time on N beach as a young buck, I swear I got whiplash, until I seen what appeared to be an '80 year old matron - can only describe scene as 2 over-easy eggs hanging on a fence by 1" nails: had to suck back a couple of heinikins to ward off the sudden chill
As you said John, I enjoyed what I did as a medic, but I NEVER found the same camraderie / brothers-in-arms as I did with the 'Family'. My first posting after remuster was Stadecona hosp, Hfx, they thought I was stuckup ('Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am etc); until after the first all ranks meet & greet, then they thought I was nuts - had to pull back on the partying then LOL; But there is no family like the Royal Family

I medically remustered dental after being air-evaced out of Cyprus in 84 with a back injury.
I can tell you all with great certainty, I, gentlemen, was the round peg in the square hole!
Hands once trained to kill, now trained to....suck spit! Yuck!!!!!! It was a short lived career, however, and included a three months stint on OJT photo tech till FRP froze remustering into the trade... Don't get me wrong, I had it pretty good (dental has got to be the most easy going trade in the entire armed forces) and the people I met were all good lads and lassies but.... there were no hardship, trials and physical challenges to create the bonds to which I had become all to accustomed to.

Exactly Mike; I met (and still do ) have a lot of good friends from the med a trade, but there was always something lacking; a bond or 'esprit de coure' if you like.

My best Air Force friends were John Fleming (RCR), Randy Everest (RCR) and a felllow I still see, Gerry Hart (PPCLI)...hmm a pattern.
The most fun I had in the Air Force was working in a Search and Rescue Sqn...we had a purpose and the SAR Techs reminded me of us...actually, Caridine (SP) was in my unit for a while...he was M/cpl in Dukes for a bit.
Johnny Fleming and I were on our JLC together, after having survived Battle School and being a soldier, it was a breeze, we tore it up. I finished second on the entire course.
John, Randy and I were all on base defence force together....that was the noob's welcome, kind of like being the C2 gunner....we had a riot....volunteered to do a second run, we actually ended up teaching on our basic BDF course, I taught sigs Randy was doing recce or something like that.
What got me on the boat to getting out was family and a posting to 435 Sqn winnipeg. They are called a transport and rescue sqn but until their move to winnipeg, were really only a transport sqn....alot of old, old air force guys...even though I was a M/cpl by then. I didn't fit in. I went to university and was going to go UTPM, but it closed the year i was elligible.
I lasted 10 months of civvy street before I transfered off the supplementary ready reserve list to an active air reserve sqn, but it wasn't the same either. At the time I was working full time at the college and going to university at night. I just couldn't keep up with my family, work etc and put in 3 weekends a month on the line, so I left.
Now my oldest son is 19, my youngest is 15 and I'm 41. The reasons I got out are no longer there....I've been thinking about re-enlisting again.
Sorry, I'm adding to my post. I was just thinking...when Edmonton closed and I got posted to Winnipeg I went to the Base Chiefs office to fill in for his assistant for a bit. So I guess I was the acting assistant BCWO. That was a blast... I was offered to stay but turned it down to move to winnipeg (my wife at teh time was Air Force and had already been posted out)...John boots his own butt with a frozen mukluk.

Gerry,Mike: I have said this before, but having read your inserts today, will repeat; i originally joined the RCAF, later trained with and spent half my career with the army, training and working playing and living with the outfits such as, 8CH, RCR, RCD and even the Vandoos, and no my French was pretty dang bad, i was a medic,in the beginning, later remustered to the then Hygiens Tech, later PMedTech, ii learned mostweapons from these people and learned rhem well because an old Cpl once sid to me if you can learn something ,especially about waepons and tactics, pay close attention; i did, and became at least proficient enough to protect me and any one with me...i learned these from guys like you.. i know of what you speak of the lack of comraderie with other trades, as compared to the Regiments.. there is no comparison, and when i returned to the AirForce , then at Comox, i was lost, really and much too much of a soldier to be an airman, and no regrets on that.. the best of my career was with you guys, and by that i mean the regiments and will be with me forever, inbcluding a very sound , and i must say very deserved , as the always are, dressing down by a man, and gentleman i am sure most if not all of you know of, that being RSM BC Robinson, i learned more in a very few minutes at that dressing down ,then i had ever learned before or since, and for that i owe him my admiration and gracious thanks. Now that should state what you all ,already know, that life with the regiments is second to none. I am very happy and amused to read what you guys say today. Nothing of the real life is missed on you, thanks, ranrad

I was very fortune when I Med Remustered in 1991 I think on my entire finiance course only 4 were new recruits and the balance came from the combat arms trades and support trades all remusters. out of 40
That was the smoothest course no hassels, no disipline well maybe a little Every one had the experience and to know what was required, they stopped doing inspections after the first week or so

My first and only posting with Fin was at Borden, I think because it was a training base they appreciated the disipline and standard us RCR's and other combat arms Re-musters brought
