Mike Metcalfe, a great guy and good friend. He and his wife Sandy were always great hosts. When I saw him last, in the late 80's, they were trying hard to have a child, we were both remustering and he was wanting a posting in Central Ontario. Both our families were in the toronto area.
There was fellow named Mike, had Piranha's in one platoon..he was my first room-mate when I came in from Pet. Used to wake up in the middle of the night to have a smoke. Came from Ajax, I think. Got out after his contract ended.
Right about Carry Caines and Rick Gooding too. I think that was Terry resting. The other one there is me and Ken Doherty. Wow, I was a geek. Glad I fixed that...lol.
My 15 yr old son had a riot looking thru some of these photo's with me. I have some of the beach scene in Cyprus too, he was a little surprised. He also couldn't believe I was only a couple years older than him when some of these were taken.

Hey John, #5 is yourself & Ken Doherty (spelling). Mike & Sandy are still in Borden; I was talking to Mike a few years ago while on a conference in Bordon. He was the base commander's driver. Kerry got out and then got back in a few years ago. Talk to him via email earier in the year; he's in Pet with the first or third. His brother Jeff is in Gagetown 2RCR.

Odd how we Royals can differentiate between textures and colours of Ontario's dirt..... snicker. I got to tell you something boys, and I'm going to be honest.
Digging freaking trenches and fire positions, specially for that mortar and machine gun, was real pain in the arse! snicker.

I was digging the GPMG pit on RV85, WO McIasaac came by the lend a hand. We were using some logs to reinforce the OHP. He was bent down in the pit, I picked up a log, turned with it...he stood up in the pit.....log, back of McIasaacs head...'nuff said.
I thought I'd be in the kitchen the rest of the tour....he stood up, got out of the pit and walked away....not a word.
