Hail,
I'm John Begen, recruited 1982, Cornwallis Jan 1983, battle school in Pet after that. Went to 1 RCR. Dukes Coy in Aug of 1983.
I served with Dukes on our next tour of Cyprus and went on to BHQ as an infantry communicator. I remustered to Aero Engine Tech in '86 and was later posted to Summerside, Edmonton and finally winterpeg. I left the Forces in 1997 and now work at a community college.
Seeing the Regiment on the news in Afghanistan has brought up some old memories.

I remember you both. I was in one platoon, Bittle was the WO there for a while too. I'll never forget the winter ex we were on and he called me over to his AVGP, grabbed me by the front of my parka, lifted me to the crew hatch and told me if I ever submerged my C2 into the snow like that again, he'd .....
It's my recollection he followed me to BHQ just before I LOTRP'd
Of all the things I've lost over time, I miss my mind the most. I wish I could remember everyones names. I was battle school with Rick Gooding, Andy Januchta (sp), John Flemming (who wouldn't remember flembag) et all.
Al (don't remember his last name) was in our platoon when his roomie was killed in the grizzly roll over on the way home from Pet.
(Inappropriate remark removed. - Regt Adjt)

Andy and I recruited together in Hamilton.
There was always Steve Washnik (sp) and the Meatheads waiting for the moving truck at the gate when he released...wonder if his car is still there (cougar, wasn't it).
Who was it that got hit, twice, by cars in cyprus...
Or the newf that went AWOL (last named started with an H, I think..we were in Cornwallis and Battle School together too) and left the carbons or copies of his plane ticket in the trash in his room...

Johnny Fleming & Dave Young; now there's two names I haven't heard in a long time! Dave always seemed to have a blackeye Rob Cushman, last I heard was in London as ?Regt WO . back about summer of '86 or '87, Duke's Coy was supporting a reserve mounted company commander's course in 'Mudford' during a Milcon, Remember when Rob and myself were on fire piquet : Rob was on the last shift & had to light the emmersion heaters - Rob lights the stick, throws it into the fire hole and it doesn't light. Rob goes over, sticks his head over to see what happened, and you guessed it - whooosh! there she goes, nothing but a big ball of flame! At the time it wasn't funnny (well just a little); after we determined Rob was OK, well, Rob had lost his 'stach, eyebrows; his head looked like a big ripe ol' tomatoe! 'course that was the same summer when I received about 10 sutures to the base of my left thumb after fighting with a stubby beer bottle at the mess in Meaford.
Geoff, once I get my scanner/printer hooked up, I' ll send you a one-eyed picture of yourself after your frontal assault on that battery.

Last I heard Johnny Flembag (my bunky in Cornwallis) was TacHelling it in Pet as a Sgt Flight Engineer. Him and Ma (his wife Janet, now that's a funny story why he calls her Ma) had a few kids, he was looking forward to hitting his 20 and pulling pole.
Hinkey or Hinkley, that was the guy who went AWOL and left his flight info in his room.
If I remember right he got to be CO at the Christmas dinner in Cyprus because he was teh youngest guy in the Battalion serving over there. I think he turned 18 about 3 months after me...lol..18...was I really ever?

Do you remember Rob Baillie?
He got to the regiment in about 1985 or 86. He later went to Edmonton (as a guard) while he waited for his LOTRP. I've been working on and off with him since then. We ran a program together at the college, he's a training coordinator at Standard Aero LTD now.
Were either of you in the shacks the weekend SW come running down the hall, chasing someone..might have been Doug Hennesey, carrying an extension cord...wanted to try and stop his heart...
Meadus...there's a funny guy...went to battle school with him too. Billy Munroe is another one I lost track of, he came to us from Airborne just before we went to Cyprus.

Oddly enough, I was the Sgt at Arms (or whatever they call the sgt who marched em in) for both Hindy and Meadus's courtmarshal. Small world, eh? I think they caught Hindy in a pool hall washroom with only a tooo small window for escape down in Newfoundland... and yes, I do believe he left his travel itinerary on his bunk.... to funny, eh? anyhow, any idea how they are doing now...

Haven't seen or heard from too many since Johnny Flembag's wedding. We had both LOTRP'd by then but used the upstairs at the JR's club for his reception. We both turned up in our new Air Force regalia...some no bone private in the ranks called us pigeons..Johnny laughed his butt off.
Good times..makes me wanna re-enlist.

Yeah, I was there at the cortmarshall also as an escort. SW did the same thing in Ipperwash chasing around one of the troops with a field phone and extension cord trying to do the same thing; he also went out back got a frog and with the field phone....one twisted mother.
Hety John, when you see Rob Bailey again, tell him I said wassup! Ask him about the time he took a few of us to his parents place one long weekend in the Hull area ( can't go into any detail here - needless too say, I was surprised we didn't end up in the drunk tank (or worse) LOL

Then there was Jeff Bungay...lol...what a character, I miss him.
Anyone know what became of Ken Doherty after he went to the dark side (Officer)?
Old Rob has done well for himself, he's riding a rocket to the top at his current job, he guest coaches at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers training camp. He was chosen to coach the MB provincial boys football team in the nationals in Kitchener or Guelph last year
You guys have me thinking about the old days. I'm going to dig out some pictures, see what I can scan that's worht sharing.
