Damn! Is it the same? ie CWO Sorbie? He taught me on a few TQ4 courses back in the early '80's when he was a masterjack. Great instructor / soldier / individual. Had a lot of patience (especially with myself) and a fine art with instructing. My deepest heartfelt condolences to his family and the regiment.

RIP Sir

That is not good news, i served with Joel in 1 RCR in the 80's.  I certainly remember some hair raising moments with him in Norway!  This is really sad news and i wish to send my condolences as well to his family and the regiment.  Till we meet again Joel,  I salute you old friend !

Joel will definitly be missed by many. I had the pleaser of him working as a section commnader when I was a Pl WO in C Coy 1rcr. we remained friends from that time. He was a fine soldier and a great leader. He always remained fit and never asked any one to complete a task that he was unable to do. He met all challenges face on. I always had respect for him and will continue to do so.
My heart felt condolences to his family and the Bn that will miss him.
My he go with God.

I need to be here more. I can't believe that! I worked with him periodically during the Ice Storm in 98 and a few other times. Tough as nails but a heart of gold. He could have been a social worker or counsellor. He never forgot a face and rarely forgot a name it seemed. Even if you only worked with/for him once, he'd stop and chat in a shopping mall, ask how things were. I know he helped me out when my wife was going through pregnancy complications just before we deployed to Bonia in 98.

Heartfelt condolences indeed.
