Captain Geoffrey Kenneth Wright, MC passed away at London, Ontario on October 6, 2005 at the age of 84. As a lieutenant he led 7 Pl, A Coy of The RCR in Italy. On May 16, 1944 in an attack on one of the strongest positions in the Gustav Line, Lt Wright, under fire, entered a cave full of Germans. He shot several of the enemy with his pistol and forced the surrender of the remainder. His leadership and courage on that day earned him the Military Cross. Lcol Tom Burdet of London, Ontario his company commander at the time tells us that some time after the attack on the Gustav Line the authorities discovered that Lt Wright was a professional engineer. He was ordered back to England where he was promoted to captain and put to work doing engineer work in preparation for D-Day in Normandy. Lcol Burdet tells us that Geoff Wright was one of the most level headed man in dangerous situations that he has ever met. We have lost another fine Royal Canadian. We will remember him. Pro Patria
