Many of you may not know this but Gordon Pinsent was a Royal Canadian before he was an actor. Have a thought for the old boy......

Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent is at home Tuesday, having collapsed at a party during the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday night.
Pinsent was at a party in Toronto's Yorkville area following the world premiere of Sarah Polley's Away from Her, in which he stars as a husband who must place his wife (played by Julie Christie) in a nursing home after she develops Alzheimer's disease.
Reports say Pinsent collapsed at the gathering but was able to walk to an ambulance on his own before being transported to hospital Monday night.
A spokeswoman for the film said Tuesday morning that Pinsent was "fine" and "at home."
She said Monday had been a long day for the 76-year-old actor, filled with media engagements before the evening's gala screening at Roy Thomson Hall. She also added that, so far, she had nothing scheduled for him on Tuesday.
Pinsent, one of the most recognizable faces in Canadian entertainment, has a list of credits stretching over 40 years. He has been a regular in several Canadian television productions, including The Red Green Show, Quentin Durgens MP, Due South and Power Play.
His vast movie credits include The Rowdyman, Who Has Seen the Wind, The Shipping News and Saint Ralph.
More recently, he wrote and directed the acclaimed TV movie Heyday! The 1940s-era work revolves around a young Newfoundland teen who, when his mother falls gravely ill, escapes into his imagination and its fantasy world of movie stars.
A Genie Award-winner, Pinsent has also been recognized by Canadian performer's union ACTRA for his work and has supported the arts scene in his native Newfoundland and elsewhere in Canada. Pinsent is a Companion of the Order of Canada.

Meet Gordon during the 100th reunion; myself and a few other newfies got together with Gordon and had a couple of wobbly pops in the drill hall. Very pleasant and friendly individual. He talked to us about he and a friend hitched from Borden to Newfoundland one time during one of his leave. He use to wear one of the old blue RCR ball caps on the Red Green show.

Hey, right , i remember that, and i didnt know, thanks you guys. I wondered why he was wearing an RCR cap?? Now i know and have a litlle more of the "real" history of our country. I like him as an actor and do wish him the best, and well, is there any doubt, everyone loves a Newfie as soon as they meet.. ranrad

A few years ago, he did a Remembrance Day show for a Hamilton Network. They drove him up to the musem in the back of a Grizz... and out he pops. I wish I would have taped it, was a good half hour.

Actor Gordon Pinsent is “in great condition” after collapsing at the after-party for his film Away From Her on Monday night, according to his talent agency.
“In a nutshell, he’s fine,” said Reena Rampersad from the Noble Caplan Abrams Agency, which represents Pinsent.
Pinsent, 76, fainted at a packed post-premiere party for the Sarah Polley-directed film at the ET Canada StudioLounge on the roof of the Harry Rosen storein Yorkville.
In the film adapted from a short story by Alice Munro, the Canadian acting veteran and companion of the Order of Canada plays opposite British screen legend Julie Christie, as a man dealing with his wife’s Alzheimer’s disease.
“Gordon had a really hectic schedule and didn’t get much of an opportunity to eat or drink,” Rampersad said. Pinsent was only briefly affected by what doctors later determined was dehydration.
Some media have erroneously reported that Pinsent walked to an ambulance. In fact, he was taken out on a stretcher. He was taken to hospital as a precaution.
There, doctors kept him for several hours, running a battery of tests to make sure everything was okay, his agency said.
“He’ll be back at the festival tomorrow,” Rampersad said.

I often wondered why he wore the RCR ball cap on the Red Green show...and now I know!
From his Bio: His full name is Gordon Edward Pinsent, and he is the son of the late Stephen Arthur and Flossie (Cooper) Pinsent. Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland. Served with the Royal Canadian Regiment from 1948-51.

Sorry to read of this. A great actor and a Canadian Icon.
Mr. Pinsent was present for the 100th anniversary in London and there was a story regarding a rather pushy high ranking officer and Gordon Pinsent.
It seems the officer was impatiently awaiting the arrival of a Limmo to take him from the Holiday Inn to Woseley barrack for a rather imporant ceremony.
When he could wait no longer he called the front desk clerk to voice his displeasure at the wait......and was inadvertently connected to the room of one Mr. Gordon Pinsent.
"This is Colonel F'ing so-and-so, where is my F'ing car?" came the question...
"This is Private Gordon Pinsent, I don't give a flyin F--- where your car is ....sir" came the reply.
Don't know if she's true but thats what circulated later that night.
Hope he is well now, good man.

Hi all: It sounds like that last statement of an "event"at 100th Celebration may well have been true.. it sort of fits with Mr Pinsents quick wit.. and he would understand the military , so I do hope Mr Pinsent will recover fully, he is ,as someone stated an icon, as well as a "brother", so all the best to him, ranrad
