Correction on first post, the officer is Arthur Skaling (sp).

No, he's holding it right. Officers held their swagger stick with the head to the rear as Capt Skaling and the NCO's held it to the front.

The truth is in the eyes of the beholder. You were on brought up on rules and regs, well so was I. Not to say my rules and regs are superior to yours but it's the way it was. It would look dopey if it was the head to the front. The swagger stick is gone.

Re:swagger stick  the reason an officer had it pointed forward was to signafy leading nco,s carried it poited to the rear was to signafy following ..PC Morris MWO{R}

...If a NCO was marching from A to B he carried the the swagger stick in his right hand, the head to the rear. If he had to salute, the stick was placed under the left armpit head to the front.
