John Saulnier,Joined the Royals in May 1965 did recrute trainnig in London May-Sep [Sicely PL].Cyprus 1966 Oct-Apr 1966.Germany 1967-1970 Soest.London 1970-1973.Germany 1973-1977 3 Mech Cdo.London 1977-1981.Egypt 1979 Dec 1981 CFSPDB [ Detention baracks]1985 off to CFOCS CFB Chilliwack better known as the Officer Candadate School.And finaly retirement in OCT 1989. Moved to Gagetowne in1998 due to health problems with my mother who is in the area. Glad to see so many names on the site that i can still remember and have a lot of good memories,who are still on the right side of the grass. Thanks for the memories John

then and now

Hi John,
I joined the RCR and started my Depot training in London in 1965 but cannot for the life of me remember the platoon I start with. I ended up in the hospital for several week and then picked up with San Leonardo Platoon...I took a Jump course in the spring of 1966, trained for Cyprus in Meaford but ended up going to Germany instead. I was in germany until 1970.

Burke Sorry for the delay,thanks for the reply,as i have stated did my recrute tranning 1965 & for the life of me cant rember you,the mind is the first thing to go.That said its still good to hear from a former Royal.I also took Jump crse 66,broke leg and never went back, my loss.Also did trainng for Cyprus in Meafod in 3 ft. snow,with C coy.Who were you with in Germany?Coy. i was with the UAS drove Ambulance.SGT Major was Chuck Caldwell.Had a good time repated back to Canada in the 1970s just when they were going down South.Worked with the moveing crew JC Gallant and company out of BN TPT. Well Burke as i stated is good to hear from a Royal at any time, keep in touch have to go will monitor site for more info and lost friends. John

Hello John we crossed paths a few times I joined the RCR in 1965 did basic left for Fort York B coy in Nov 65, was rebadged to the Black Watch in 68 until it disbanded then back to London and Cyprus with reece Platoon I remustered in 76 to TPT and got posted to Borden until 86 my last posting was to Chilliwack base tpt until I got out in 91 presently working as a class B for cadets in Borden and loving it.

Hey Dave: Thought i reconised the name when i first came across the site.Good to hear from you,sorry for the delayed reply.You must have been in Chilliwack at the same time as i was 85-89.Its a wonder we did not run into each other.I did not leave the area until 98 when i left for Gagetown.Heard from a lot of the guys since i joined the site.Its good to swap old stories once again with someone who understands the military mind set.Will say good bye for now and will monotor the site for more friends.

Hello John I don't know if you remember me I think we shared a couple of town houses in Germany a little while back and In London I remember you had a small dog that used to bring cars back when it got away form you any way John take care it's good to see you on the site.

I am Joe Kelly and live in St Louis De Kent, NB. There was another Joe Kelly , he was a Cpl at the time. I recognize your name and thought I would say Hi. I was in Germany with you from 67 to 70 , in A Coy with CSM Parker and Capt Hunter. We had Dick Watters as a Coy clerk. There were such names as George Cake, Mike Campbell, Bob White, Bob (squeegie) Carroll, Ray Hunter,Jim Murphy, Joe Henneck,Bob Crick,Ray Eagles, and many more I just can't remember their names right now. I joined the Royals 7 Oct 65, did my basic with Gothic Line, with Sgt Bill McKay, Cpl Tombs,Cpl StLouis, Cpl Wonch, Cpl Rooks, Cyprus 66/67 with B Coy, Maj Barr and CSM Riddell,Cpl Ernie Wetzel, Cpl Keith Wonch, Cpl Marv MacDonald, Cpl St Louis, Cpl Rooks (rubber jaw), Cpl Ronnie Tombs, Sgt MacDonald, did most my time in Cyprus at Oneisha Farm and Mystery house. Back in London in Oct 79 just in time for the Oct crisis and left London in sep 73 and rebadged to PPCLI, Calgary, Remustered to MP in 75 and retired in Jan 98 from Shearwater, NS.
Hey Joe,good to here from you,Oneisha pig farm brings back a few memories,do you rember when boots Trebbel shot himself in the ass?Did you happen to run into an MP in Shearwater by the name of Dorien Desmond she was at the detintion barracks with me 81 to 85.I see alot of the old guys here in Gagetown,I work as a commisioner on base J7,and run into a lot of the guys . Well Joe sorry for the delayed reply hope all is well and have a great Holliday Seasson.

Small world isnt it ? Joined the RCRs in the fall of 1965.Completed basic training with Rimini Platoon. Cyprus from the fall of 66 to spring 67 with B co. Assigned to Kyrenia and several outposts.Teds Farm-Temploss.Leaves in Beirut Lebanon and the holy land.What an opportunity to see other countries Germany Fort York the fall of 67 to 68 A company.
