Hi Folks, this one just off the wire, but the deadline is a close one.
An online acquaintance, (and good friend) of mine just sent me the following message of a call for volunteers from the CBC about the Great War Project.  They're looking for 300 folks, have a read and check out the mentioned site if you feel your like to take part.  If anyone gets in, please leave some feedback here if you can.

Hi Brian,

Are you aware of the CBC’s Great War project? Please take a look at the link below, which I found through Army Forums and pass it on if you know of anyone who may be interested.

Enlist in CBC's Great War project: http://www.cbc.ca/greatwar/

The CBC wants you!

That is, if your great-grandfather helped take Vimy Ridge, or was one of the half-million Canadians who fought in the Great War. Writer-director Brian McKenna is putting out the call for 300 volunteers willing to walk in their ancestors' footsteps, literally. It's all part of a massive four-hour docu-drama project scheduled to air on CBC-TV in 2007 to mark the 90th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge.

The deadline is August 15th 2005…

Best regards,

Jean

Here's an exerpt from the site:
Are you the descendant of a First World War soldier, airman or nurse? We want YOU to participate in a remarkable CBC-TV series.

Like your great-grandfathers and grandmothers, you'll answer the call, board a train with other descendants and travel to a battleground. You'll be outfitted, trained, fed and marched into a battle re-enactment to
learn - firsthand - the horrific sights, sounds and smells of trench life.

Your experience will be filmed and form the heart of a four-hour television documentary and dramatic series by award-winning director Brian McKenna. Coming to CBC-TV in 2007
.

My grand father, service#488394 Pte Clifford A. McDonald served with the RCR during WW1. Pte McDonald departed Canada aboard S/S Justica on 13th October 1917 and arrived England 26th October. He remained in England for 3 1/2 months, departed for his unit (RCR) in France and arrived on 25th February 1918. About a month after his arrival in the field he was diagnosed with Insomnia and returned to England, Northamptoshire War Hospital on 16th April 1918. While at the hospital it was dicovered he was under age. On enlistment his birth date was declared as 26th September 1898 but his actual birth date was 26th September 1901, which means he was only 15 years of age when he joined. He was sent back to Canada on 22nd October 1918 and discharged at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 23rd December 1918. In 1934 he drowned in a swimming accident and is burried at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Halifax. His grave stone shows 'Royal Canadian Regiment. I have some more information taken from his Military file if requested.
Thank you.
