On the 9th of August Peacekeeper Memorial Day in NB there will be a ceremony at the War Memorial Cenotaph were the Lieutenant Governor(LG) of NB will unveil a plaque to remember those who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of peace with the UN and NATO. The ceremony begins at 1000 hrs with the arrival of the LG, after a brief ceremony we will move to the NB Legislature where the UN flag will be raised on the grounds. Afterwards all invited to attend a reception at the LGs Residence. From what we understand this is a first for a War Memorial in Canada. Thom Joordens a 50,60,70s Royal was the brains behind this project. Anyway for those in the Fredericton area be there by 0930 if you wish to attend (blazer and medals if you have them). Good day fellow Royals The Peacekeepers Memorial Plaque was unveiled at the fredericton War Memorial Cenotaph today by the Lieutenant Governor of NB. In attendance were former Peacekeepers, RCMP Peacekeepers, RCMP Veterans, contingents from the Korean Veterans Asscn, HMCS Fredericton and the 2nd Batallion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. All went extremely well the day was gorgeous and the ceremony was brief. Mrs Susan Short Silver Cross widow of Sgt Robert Short laid a wreath in honour of the fallen. Mary Ann Peace Silver Sross widow of WO Mike Peace was also in attendance. The event was capped by a exceptional reception hosted by the Lieutenant Governor at the Old Government House. It was a great day to be a Peacekeeping Veteran, Soldier and Royal. Take care all the best. Pro Patria Fred Doucette

Hi All: Have just got to reading this one and found it very interesting and satisfying. I realize it is almost a year.. but so much good stuff on this site it talkes time to read it.. anyway, I belonged to the small Legion at Caron Sk. for about 10 yrs after i left the military, and in 1999 we erected a Memorial Cairn in front of said Legion, dedicated to all who have given their lives and all who served and does include Peacekeepers and i believe Nato. This cairn was constructed by some of our members and was built of stones which had been brought to the site from farms and towns/villages all around the area. The actual stonework was mostly doneby Ira Ellingson who is a long time Associate Legion Member and Arthur Gamble, a veteran of WW2 and the Battle of the Scheldt, who just recently passed away, and was a superb work. This memorial is listed amongst Canadian War Memorials and is on line. I will try to get the Website and post it. I hope some will find this of interest. The plaque on the memorial is polished black granite in the shape of the general shape of the province of Saskatchewan, ranrad
