WW 1 - Military Medal - For Bravery

Hello:   I'am trying to find information regarding my grandfathers time in the military - WW 1.  He was part of the Battles of Droucourt-Queant - Cambri & Amiens.    According to his files he was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery but does not state why.   Would anyone out there be able to tell me if this is the proper name for this medal and how I would be able to find out why he received such medal as I say it does not state in his military records.   Thanks so much to all for any help you could provide.    Sandi

Try sending the Curator of the RCR Museum, Mr. Claus Breede an email.  He may have something on file, or might be able to direct you to a better source for finding that sort of information?
The Museum Email address is contact@rcrmuseum.ca
Brian

P.S.  you mght also want to include your grandfathers name and rank.

See this page for a list of the Military Medal recipients of The RCR:

http://thercr.ca/honours_awards/03-military_medal.htm

The list is reproduced from the first volume of the Regimental History, with one addition of a recently identified recipient (so there may be other errors).

With the Military Medal, many were awarded for single acts of bravery, but others were awarded for individual performance over time.  In the latter case, there may not be a specific citation describing why he received the medal.

The page above includes dates of "Gazetting" (where the listing has been found), which was the official publication of the award in the London Gazette. You can search the London Gazette here to see the applicable pages (the search function is a bit frustrating at times):   http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveSearch.asp?WebType=0&Referer=WW1

You can also try searching the War Diary for mentions of his name: http://thercr.ca/history/1914-1919/CEF_War_Diary.htm

McGlashing

Listed in the London Gazette as 1060294 Pte. MacGlashing, F. Roy. Can. R.

Attestation paper: http://data4.collectionscanada.ca/netacgi/nph-brs?s1=McGlashing+&s2=&s3=&Sect4=AND&l=20&Sect1=IMAGE&Sect2=THESOFF&Sect5=CEF6PEN&Sect6=HITOFF&d=CEF6&p=1&u=http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/02010602_e.html&r=4&f=G

Front page of Gazette; Tuesday 1 July 1919

Start of Section listing MMs

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveViewFrameSetup.asp?IssueNumber=31430&pageNumber=2&SearchFor=MacGlashing&PageDuplicate=n&selMedalType=&selHonourType=

Page including "MacGliashing"

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveViewFrameSetup.asp?webType=0&PageDuplicate=n%20%20%20%20%20%20%20&issueNumber=31430&pageNumber=0&SearchFor=MacGlashing%20&selMedalType=&selHonourType=

Frederick McGlashing's name was spelled with a "Mac" in the London Gazette, the only such listing in the First World War records.
The regimental history for The RCR also misspelled his name, listed his as MacGlashin.

Sandi, thank you very much for bringing this forward, I will correct the listing online at http://thercr.ca as well. - http://thercr.ca/honours_awards/03-military_medal.htm
