Greetings Corey and Rick.

Got this e-mail from Col (Ret'd) Norman soon after I sent the picture of th demo platoon-58 to his son Mark (a Navy Capt(N)) ........Small world.......Enjoy

Sergeant-Major (or Coxswain ?):-

What a neat memory. The occasion was the dress rehearsal parade for the Platoon which was to take part within the week in the street-lining at Niagara Falls for the visit of HRH The Princess Margaret in 1958. Another Royal occasion !

It was a fascinating group and a fun time. There were actually two platoons - the other under command of Lt Strong was in Meaford although I was responsible to the CO, LCol Don Holmes, for both. You will note Oscar Lambert, the two O'Quinns, McPhee and Sgt Al Hinds amongst the group. Another is Cpl Peck, who received high praise from Col Dextraze (then the Comdt RCS of I) for actually doing what he had been told - JADEX found that to be exceptional at the time as he believed it no longer happened. Well done, The RCR, and I was directed to write to the CO to tell him that.

Other than the myriad of duties performed (we were a talent agency but seen as a labour pool), Sgt Hinds and I arranged that all the members of the Platoon would be trained as Pioneers, which prompted, in the booby-trap phase, the blowing up of many toilet seats throughout the camp !

Many thanks for the memories. Do I see you in August ?

Cheers      Frank Norman

Hello Tony,

Mr Oostrom was my dad, I'm Cor or Oostrom, thank's anyway,to get back to your question those boots look like that they were the old red jump boots . I'm not in this picture,my buddy Ronny Parkinson is in the picture. The rest of us wore the short black boot in those days.
